Tommy Trevino Remembers:
Tommy Trevino remembers the fireworks from the park and seeing them from Fifth Street as well as far back from Pepper Road.
Ken Corns Remembers:
I grew up in Ecorse, attended School # 4, and graduated Ecorse High 1957. We were the first class to graduate in the new auditorium.
My parents had Miss Elliott, and so did I. I was kicked out of her class a few times. More than once she made the Student Council President (Art Whitefield), and the Senior Class President (yours truly) leave the room, and asked to not return, until we were willing to stand in front of the class and apologize for being so disruptive. We did, after a few days.
I'm not sure if the Songsters were performing when you were at EHS, if so, I would like to tell you, I was the co-founder, along with Art Whitefield. Helen Garlington wanted to get some male voices to join with the Girl's Glee Club. It was just the two of us for the first year, but gradually we started getting our buddies to join with us. The guys actually found it pretty neat hanging out with the girls. I kept regular contact with Helen through the years, right up until her death. My wife and I even visited her at her home in Newberry, SC, about 4 years ago.
