Ecorse Businesses-1921
Population, 4,894 (U. S. Census, 1920). Incorporated as a village in 1902, is located on the Detroit river, on the Wyandotte division Detroit United (Electric) Railway (connecting with Detroit every 20 minutes), and on the N. Y. C., the M.C.,the D.&T. S.L .& I. R. R's, in Ecorse township, Wayne County, 8 miles below Detroit and 3 above Wyandotte. It was formerly known as Grand Port and dates its existence from 1836, although the locality was settled over a century ago. It is supplied with water from Detroit and has a bank, 2 handsome free school buildings, Catholic and Presbyterian churches, electric lights, etc. Two weekly newspapers, the Review and Tribune, are published. The country in the vicinity is level and somewhat low, but rich and fertile. Grain, hay, lumber, salt and ice are shipped. Telegraph, express and telephone connection. Has mail de livery from Detroit.
